The Brian Bands-Nutritech-NMMU men's squash team emerged as Super League champions for the fourth consecutive year after claiming a 5-0 victory over hosts Londt Park in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.

The Madibaz had the edge over their archrivals all evening with Dwain Dodd drawing first blood to beat Graham Hall 3-2 after trailing by two games early on.

The university's Kyle Schwarz followed that up with an impressive 3-1 victory over former pro Greg la Mude, after which captain Jason le Roux ensured a clean sweep for the visitors with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Rudi van Niekerk after also lagging by two games.

Teammates Jarryd Terblanche and Johan Thiel put the seal on their triumph by dispatching Dewald van Niekerk and Warren Watermeyer 3-0 respectively.

Le Roux said the squad had been relatively confident going into Tuesday's final match despite the fact that recent results had favoured their opposition.

"We were two points behind on the log, which is a small difference, and knew that the winners would walk away with the league title because of the bonus point scenario.

"We were all going to have tough matches, but believed at least three of us had what it took to pull off wins."

Le Roux said he was proud of the team's performance throughout the five-week Super League, their first big one of the year.

He said they had spent lots of time together on court to bond and cultivate a positive frame of mind while also working on movement and fitness ahead of matches.

"We had been training in pairs and threes throughout the Super League to keep us motivated and sharp."

Madibaz squash manager Zanele Mdodana said she was happy with the team's performance and was looking forward to seeing them reap the rewards of their hard work.

"Our boys are strong, disciplined and determined to make this year a success. I am honoured to be associated with such great athletes."

NMMU will next aim to claim a fourth consecutive victory in the Winter League, which takes place from mid-April to September.
