Any student interested in registering a new sport club at the NMMU must first prove the need for the establishment of the specific club and guarantee an adequate interest over a specific period of time.

A list containing the names of a minimum of 20 interested individuals, of which the majority must be students, must be submitted to the Director Sport. The intended new sport code must be affiliated to and governed by a local provincial sporting federation.

The availability of suitable facilities will also play a crucial role in the final acceptance of the new sport club.

A provisional committee must be formed and a draft constitution must be submit to the NMMU Sport Bureau.

After the application has been approved, an inauguration meeting has to be held where a club committee has to be elected according to the draft constitution submitted.

The elected committee must act in accordance with the rules of the NMMU Sport Bureau’s policies and regulations.

If the above criteria are met and the new club participates on a friendly basis for a minimum of two years, an application can be submitted to the Sport Bureau for official funding.
